Water: Once established, water monthly. Controlled watering is key to success.

South American tree growing to 50 feet. Heavy trunk studded with thick heavy spines. Young trunks are green, becoming gray with age.

Leaves divided into leaflets like fingers of a hand, falling when temperatures drop below 27 degrees F.

Flowers white to pale yellow, 5-6 inches across. Blooms from fall into winter; flowering is stopped by frost.
